Mexico’s history is as diverse and vibrant as the culture and people that define it. The story of Mexico begins with the ancient civilizations that flourished long before the arrival of Europeans. The Olmecs, often considered the mother culture of Mesoamerica, set the stage around 1200 BCE with their colossal head sculptures and advanced societal organization.   Following the Olmecs, the Maya civilization reached its peak during the Classic period (250-900 CE).
